Each year, the BACK TO THE WILD® staff present an educational program at the Harvest Happenings fall event at the Osborn Park, one of the parks in the Erie County (Ohio) Metroparks system. These pictures illustrate the activities and the crowds that are intrigued by these wild animals up close and personal.

Mona explains why an endangered bird, the Bald Eagle, is a permanent resident at BACK TO THE WILD®. This Bald Eagle was blinded by the West Nile Virus and, therefore, cannot survive in the wild. Bill answers questions from some young boys when they were looking at the amphibians in the cages. Return to the top of the page.

More questions about reptiles from young boys! Mona holds the Bald Eagle to better explain some aspects of the work necessary to rehabilitate a large raptor. Notice the long leather gloves she is wearing to protect her hand and arm from the sharp talons. Mona does NOT need such protection because the eagle wants to hurt her, but rather because of the powerful, natural grip an eagle uses when on a branch. Return to the top of the page.
